I have been teaching using the tapes as is between 124 and 128 BPM. People keep asking me to make it faster. I think it would give a better workout, but new people will have a hard time getting the moves. Plus it's hard enough for me to spit out all the words when I cue and am trying to make it more intense! Does anyone have ideas for participants to increase intensity without me also increasing? They can raise steps or add handweights. Any other suggestions?

I was disappointed to see that there are instructors teaching step at bpm's as fast as 140! As fitness professionals, it's our responsibility to put safety first. Our participants trust us! Reebok step states that the maximum step speed should be 128bpm. Participants may want to go faster, but we are the professionals, not them. They can increase intensity by using a larger ROM or doing power moves. We gotta stick together on this!
